Top Tips for keeping spiders at bay

It’s September and here are our Top Tips for keeping spiders at bay.

As the nights draw in and Halloween approaches, some people deck their homes with cobwebs. Spooky decorations are great but the spiders are heading indoors looking for mates. Check out our Top tips for keeping spiders at bay:

The best ideas to keep the creepy crawlies away are listed here:

Seal gaps in doors and windows and fill any cracks or crevices.

Use draught excluder, available in different widths and designs to fit all types of gap. Buy some filler in ready-made or powder form to seal up those holes in the walls.

Tidy Up – You’ve heard of Spring Clean, let’s promote Autumn Declutter.

Spiders love hiding so keep storage areas tidy and get rid of the Stuff that hasn’t moved for a year.

Regular cleaning – Get under the sofa.

Vacuuming everywhere, especially corners and near windows reduces spider eggs and cobwebs, discouraging the pests from holing up with you.

Deter them with scent.

There is an old wives tale that conkers keep spiders out, it is thought they have some kind of chemical that spiders don’t like. That is not absolutely proven but it is true that spiders don’t like strong scents like citrus, peppermint, vinegar or cinnamon. Next time you eat an orange, steep your old peel in some boiled water and spray it around windows and doors.
